How to Use the bd integra syringe

1. Attachment

• Attach the BD Integra needle onto the BD Integra syringe with a push and a clockwise twist. If pre-attached, tighten the needle to the syringe prior to use.

2. Aspiration

• Pull the shield directly off of the needle. Draw up medication in accordance with established protocol.

3. Injection

• Administer medication in accordance with established protocol, making sure that all medication has been dispensed

4. Activation

• Push plunger rod to activate the safety mechanism. Depress until you sense two “clicks”.Activation can occur before or after the needle is withdrawn from the patient.

5. Needle Retraction

• The needle will disappear into the syringe and the plunger will be recessed into the barrel when activation is complete.Discard immediately in the nearest sharps container.

Aseptic technique and proper skin preparation of the site are essential. Follow your institution’s policy for safe disposal of all medical waste.
Warnings:

• DO NOT HAVE A STANDARD LUER CONNECTION.
• When pressurizing a medication vial, do not continue to press the plunger rod
• past the point of resistance, as this may activate the device prematurely.
• If Activation is performed before needle is withdrawn from patient, do not advance
• needle while depressing plunger rod.
• If Activation is performed after needle is withdrawn from patient, minimal splatter
• may occur. Activate away from self and others.
• DO NOT use this product to draw blood or for venipuncture.
• The needle will disappear into the syringe and the plunger will be recessed into the barrel when activation is complete.
• There is no exposure to the used needle.
